Melissa Crystal O'Neil was born July 12, 1988[1].] She is a Canadian singer and actress. In 2005, O'Neil won the third season of Canadian Idol, the first Canadian female to be a winner of. As an actress, she is famous for her performances as Two and Rebecca or Portia Lin on the Syfy science fiction series Dark Matter and as Officer Lucy Chen on the ABC police procedural drama The Rookie.Although she was highly praised by the judges, she suffered huge setbacks in both the Top 10 and Top 9 weeks of the finals, being voted into the third and fourth places as well as the bottom two. After being shocked, judges advised viewers to vote Melissa O'Neil, who was clearly the most vocal contestant. O'Neil's performances were always praised and O'Neil was not relegated to the bottom three. Zack Werner, the judge, called O'Neil "a contender to win the entire competition". The 7th of September, 2005, O'Neil made it to the final two contestants of the contest, along with Rex Goudie, and after many more spectacular performances the judge Werner famously stated that the headlines of the next day's newspaper would read "The King [Kalan Porter] has passed away, long live the Queen." At the grand finale's results ceremony on September 14, 2005, O'Neil defeated Goudie to be crowned the third Canadian Idol, as well as being the first female winner as well as (at 17) the youngest winner of the show's history.
